Peloton Metrics Not Showing? Here Are 4 Easy Fixes That Work!

Assuming you own a Peloton Bike or Peloton Bike Plus, you already know how important it is to see your cadence, resistance, speed, and other helpful information on-screen.

These metrics help you monitor your riding sessions and work towards your fitness goals. I personally bought my Peloton Bike to see these metrics on the Peloton application so I can see my improvements.

But when these metrics don’t update properly on the Peloton app, it’ll likely annoy and disrupt your cycling workout. It happened to me and I tried a few things and finally fixed the issue.

If you have the same problem with your Peloton Bike or Treadmill, read on to learn how you can fix the peloton bike not showing metrics. These are simple fixes that will display the metrics on your machine again.

How to Fix Peloton Metrics Not Working Issue

This troubleshooting guide will help you pinpoint the exact issue behind Peloton metrics not working and walk you through the fixing process.

Except for the manual recalibration fix, the following workarounds apply to both the Peloton Bike and Bike+ models. Solutions 1, 2, and 3 work also for the Peloton Treadmill.

Solution #1: Power Cycle Your Peloton

When the metrics aren’t updating on your Peloton Machine, the first thing to do is restart the tablet of your Peloton equipment.

To restart the screen, unplug the power cord, wait for 30 seconds, and then reattach the cable back to its outlet. Or, you can just press and hold the Power button on the side until you see the Peloton boot screen. To make sure, you can do both of them.

Next, when the screen is booted and you’re back in the Peloton application, join a Peloton class to check whether you can see the metrics updating as intended. If Peloton stats are still not showing, try out the following solution.

Solution #2: Replug The Monitor Cables

Often a loose connection between the touchscreen and the monitor cables can result in the metrics not displaying during a Peloton class.

There is an easy fix to this, you just need to push the cords that come from the machine on the back of the touchscreen upwards to ensure they’re plugged snuggly into their respective ports.

This should fix the issue. But if it still doesn’t show Peloton feedback on the screen, gently unplug the two cables, inspect the connectors for any physical damages, and then plug them back in firmly.

You can then join another Peloton class to verify if the Peloton metrics work. If still the Peloton metrics showing 0, you need to do the following fix.

Solution #3: Clear Cache On Your Peloton

Assuming the Peloton metrics don’t update properly even after calibration, odds are it’s a software bug. Clearing the console’s cache might help, according to a few Peloton users on Reddit. Since it isn’t the same as factory resetting the tablet, you should give it a try. Here’s how to clear the cache on your Peloton:

  1. First, power off the Peloton tablet by holding the Power button and selecting Shutdown on the screen.
  2. Next, press and hold the Power and Volume Up keys simultaneously till the Peloton logo appears on the screen. It’ll boot to the Recovery Mode.
  3. Use the Volume keys to highlight Wipe Cache Partition in the following menu, then press the Power button to select the option.
  4. Once you see the confirmation message, select Reboot System Now to boot back into Peloton’s system.
  5. Just for the measure, before you start a class again, go to the Device Settings > Apps menu, choose Peloton from the list, tap Storage, and clear the cache for the particular app.

Solution #4: Calibrate Your Peloton Bike

If your Peloton Original Bike still isn’t updating the metrics as it should, you may need to re-calibrate the Peloton resistance and cadence. It’s not as easy as the other solutions but if you are good with tools, it shouldn’t be a problem.

To do this fix, you’ll first need to ask Peloton Support for a calibration kit for your Peloton machine because it’s normally not included in the box.

Additionally, you’ll require a Philips head screwdriver, and search your Bike’s toolkit for the 3mm and 4mm Allen keys. When you receive the calibration kit, perform the following steps to calibrate your Peloton Bike:

  1. Remove the plastic front sweat protection guard that covers the flywheel and bottle holder using the Philips head screwdriver.
  2. Tap the three-dot icon on the bottom-right corner of the Peloton bike or treadmill tablet, followed by “About”.
  3. Tap the upper-right corner of the “About” box repeatedly until you see the “Welcome to Sensor Calibration!” message.
  4. Select “Get Started” and turn the resistance knob counterclockwise. Once you fully turn it to the left, tap Calibrate to calibrate the minimum resistance.
  5. Next tap “Calibrate Max Resistance” and turn the resistance knob clockwise, all the way to the right.
  6. Once the calibration is complete, tap Done and turn the knob anti-clockwise to the left again.
  7. Refer to the user manual to find the wedge tool in the calibration kit. Place it between the flywheel’s second and third magnets, then turn the resistance knob to sit on the wedge.
  8. Remove the wedge tool and slide the white disks beneath the resistance knob, ensuring the lines on both disks match up and face the Bike’s neck. After that, tap Next on the screen to proceed further in the calibration process.
  9. As you tap Set, turn the resistance knob in quarter-turn (¼) increments until the end of the 30-step calibration process.
  10. Finally, power off the tablet and unplug the Bike’s power cord. Reinstall the sweat guard and bottle holder.

Assuming you’ve followed the instructions correctly, the cadence and resistance metrics should be precise and refreshed continuously during your riding sessions.

This solution is only for the Peloton Bike Original because its resistance is manually adjustable. The Peloton Bike+ doesn’t need manual calibrations as it features a digitally-controlled resistance brake mechanism that calibrates automatically on every power cycle.

If the metrics don’t work on your Peloton Bike+, go to Device Settings, select Home Calibration, and wait for a minute or so for the calibration process to complete. If you prefer watching a video on how to recalibrate your Peloton Bike or Bike Plus, watch this video.

Fix Peloton Metrics Not Working On Apple Watch

If you use an Apple Watch for on-wrist Peloton metrics, the info not updating in real-time is likely an app issue rather than the Bike itself.

To fix it, uninstall the Peloton app from your Apple Watch and iPhone and reinstall it from the App Store. After that, make sure to select the Sync to Health App option in the Peloton app and give it the necessary permissions.

The next time you start your bike or treadmill workout, you should see your Peloton metrics properly updating on the Apple Watch. This doesn’t include the Peloton Bike Original because that model doesn’t include Apple Watch Integration.

How do I turn on target metrics Peloton?

How Can I Find Target Metrics? Target Metrics is available in on-demand cycling and running classes on the Peloton Bike, Bike+, Tread, and Tread+.

The feature will automatically appear on the metric tab during a class. Target Metrics will now be available for guided scenic runs and rides as well.

How do you show Cadence and resistance on the Peloton app?

Peloton bikes show the cadence and resistance automatically when you start to pedal. But if you have a non-Peloton bike that you would like to use with the Peloton application, you would need to start a cycling class on the Peloton app on your tablet.

Then click the connected devices button. Tap cadence, tap the name of your device to pair your cadence monitor and you should see your live cadence metrics start to appear.

Showing resistance level on the Peloton application is not as easy. Your bike should have electronically adjustable resistance like the Echelon EX5 and you might need to use the QZ application which is a bridge between Peloton app and non-Peloton bikes.

How can I tell if my Peloton is calibrated correctly?

You need to check the Peloton bike resistance knob. Do the following to see if your peloton bike is calibrated correctly. Turn the knob clockwise all the way to the end, now you should see 100 for resistance on the screen.

Then turn the knob counterclockwise all the way and if you see 0 on the screen, it means your Peloton bike is calibrated. For calibration, you can follow my instruction above.

Is following cadence or resistance metrics better for weight loss on Peloton?

Always higher cadence is the best and quickest way to lose weight on because it has cardiovascular benefit. The best cycling cadence to reduce your weight and burn more fat is from 90 to 110 RPM (revolutions per minute) performed at a low gear with minimum resistance.

On the other hand, a higher resistance will build strength. So, if you want to build strength and maybe even build muscles, it’s best to do high resistance on your Peloton bike.

As a rule of thumb, you should away work on your cardiovascular system first so you should do high cadence workouts more frequently. Once you build a good stamina to stay injury-free, you can start doing high resistance low-cadence spinning workouts.

From time to time, you could also aim for a mix of high resistance and high cadence Peloton classes. This way you will increase strength while burning a great number of calories. It’s no secret that you’ll burn more calories when you increase the resistance level and pedal harder and faster.

Is cadence on Peloton the same as RPM?

Yes, cadence and RPM is the same thing on Peloton. Your Cadence, measured in RPMs (rotations per minute), is how fast you’re pedaling. It’s different from resistance and speed.

Resistance, measured as a percentage of the minimum and maximum intensity from 0 to 100 percent. It is your level of difficulty, which can be set by turning the resistance knob on the Peloton bike.

Speed on the other hand is how fast you are going (not the rotation of your crank) but the rotation of flywheel. That’s pretty much the Peloton metrics explained.

Does Peloton show you your resistance?

Yes, the Peloton bike Original and the Peloton bike plus display your resistance level on their screens. It is measured from level 1 to level 100.

Although the Peloton Original Bike can’t change resistance automatically, the Peloton Bike Plus has the ability to change the resistance automatically when an instructor calls out a new intensity level.
