Best Spinning Shoes In Canada For Men – Top Picks + Reviews

Sidi Alba 2 Mega Cycling Shoes

 out of stock
Amazon.ca
as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

Many men will struggle to find wide enough cycling shoes that don’t cause their toes to go numb or other foot discomforts. The Sidi Alba 2 is just that. They’re wider than your average cycling shoes, so they’re more comfortable and a better fit for many. That being said, some wearers may find these too wide for their comfort. These are all black with minimal red accents for a simple, but great looking appearance. They also have a replaceable heel pad for convenience and keep them feeling great for longer.
These are made from what’s called Politex, a material that is made from PVC. It’s durable and will last you for a while. While this is great, the material won’t breathe as well as mesh would. The sole is a carbon composite and works with 3-bolt cleats. The closure is a combination of dial tightening and straps, so the Sidi Alba 2s will fit your feet all over and provide the support you need.

We found the Sidi Alba 2 cycling shoes to be the best men’s spin shoes in Canada. We could feel how durable they are, so there were no concerns even for those who have regular and common intense workouts. While the material doesn’t provide as much airflow, it’s also more reliable to last a while. The replaceable heel pad and strong carbon sole mean these will be worth the investment.

Pros:

  • The outer Politex material is sturdy and durable.
  • The Sidi Alba 2 shoes use a combination of closure types to provide the best fit possible.

Cons:

  • These won’t be as breathable as a style that uses mesh.
  • These shoes may be too wide for some wearers.

Fizik R5 Cycling Shoes For Men

The Fizik R5 cycling shoes are designed to conform to your feet for the most comfortable fit possible. These all black shoes will fit like a glove and give you the support you need to get the most out of your cycling workout. We did find them to be a bit narrow and they won’t be as comfortable for someone with a higher arch or someone with wider feet.

These shoes use 3-bolt cleats and have a nylon sole. Like the Sidi Alba 2 Mega Cycling Shoes, these are made from a manufacturer’s unique material. While Sidi has Politex, Fizik uses what they call Microtex. Just like Politex, the Microtex doesn’t have the same level of airflow as a mesh shoe, but it does have great support. The Fizik R5 cycling shoe uses BOA dial closure with Velcro to create a great fit along the entire shoe.

We found these shoes to be almost on par with our top pick, the Sidi Alba 2. However, these are narrow and because of this, they drop down on the list. Most men need that extra width, so they won’t fit everyone as comfortably, but they are a quality shoe with a near-perfect design.

Pros:

  • The Fizik R5 shoes use a combination of BOA and Velcro closure.
  • These shoes fit your feet well, with a snug and supportive design.

Cons:

  • These do run narrow, which can create a problem for some wearers.

SANYES Men’s Cycling Shoes

If you enjoy matching your shoes with clothing or equipment, or if you simply like to show off your own personal style, you’ll be please to know that the SANYES Cycling Shoes come in eight different colors you can pick from, and some are quite flashy. There’s a solid black outer, with vibrant green accents on the inside lining and the Velcro strap, a red with black accents, neon green with black accents, white with black accents, and a simpler understated solid black. For an even more unique look, they also carry a few iridescent options in black, blue, and red. These colorful options will ensure an interesting appearance.

These shoes work with different spin bike pedals, both 2-bolt and 3-bolt cleats to accommodate a variety of styles such as Look Delta, SPD, SPD-R, and SPD-SL. The material is highly perforated to increase breathability and keep your feet cool. They have a removable sock liner and a nylon sole for support. We found them to run mostly true to size, but slightly on the larger side. They use both dial and strap for closure and are quick and easy to take on and off. The biggest hold up is that the screw in feature seems to be deeper into the sole and causes more difficulty than with other shoes.

Overall, these are great except for the minor issues with the sizing and the screw in parts. They fit well once you get the sizing right, and they have such a variety of color options that they will make anyone happy, from someone who prefers to keep things simple to those who like to stand out.

Pros:

  • SANYES Cycling Shoes come in eight different color options.
  • These shoes will work with both SPD and SPD-SL shoes for spinning for men.

Cons:

  • These tend to run a bit big.
  • We did find that they were a bit more difficult to screw the cleats into.

Giro Savix Men’s Cycling Shoes

as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

These shoes come in four color options to suit different preferences. You have a choice of solid black, black with red accents, mostly white with minimal black accents, and a half and half combination of black and white. While all these colors are understated, they are also stylish. The design also incorporates mesh panels, which we find to be quite comfortable. We also felt that these shoes may not be as durable as other options and that they won’t last as long with more intense workouts.

The Giro Savix Cycling Shoe is compatible with both 2-bolt and 3-bolt cleats and has a nylon sole for support. They use both a BOA dial closure system and a Velcro strap for added stability. We found these shoes to run small and you will want to plan accordingly. The EVA foam insole is quite comfortable and supportive.

While we love the mesh panels, those who are used to the more structural design of other spinning shoe for men in Canada may not feel as durable and strong. We wonder how long these would last for someone who really gives it their all and regularly does intense cycling sessions.

Pros:

  • These shoes have mesh panels for great breathability.
  • The Giro Savix Cycling Shoe has decent support in the arch and sole.

Cons:

  • These shoes run small.
  • They don’t feel as strong or durable, and we feel they won’t last as long.

Pearl Izumi Men’s Studio Cycling Shoe

as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

The Pearl Izumi Men’s Select Road V5 Studio Cycling Shoes are a sleek looking design that’s black with minimal blue accents. They’re made with an antimicrobial sock liner to reduce odor and bacterial growth. Pearl Izumi also went the extra mile and make these shoes in a broad range of sizes to accommodate those with larger shoe sizes.

These tend to be true to size and use three Velcro straps for a strong and secure closure, though most cyclists prefer the BOA dial system at this point. There are mesh panels for optimal temperature control, and the synthetic sole works with SPD cleats.

These are great shoes, and while they don’t make the top of our list, we think they’d work well for those who have a larger shoe size. The strap only closure style isn’t ideal, but we found them to be strong and reliable. These only work with SPD, so that limits certain things, but these shoes fit well and were comfortable.

Pros:

  • These shoes use antimicrobial materials for bacterial and fungal control.
  • Pearl Izumi makes these shoes in larger sizes.

Cons:

  • These only use Velcro straps for closure.
  • There are no color options to choose from.

Louis Garneau Men’s Multi Air Flex Bike Shoe

 out of stock
Amazon.ca
as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

The Louis Garneau Men’s Multi Air Flex Bike Shoes come in three color options consisting of dark gray, dark gray with minimal red accents, and a lighter gray. These shoes look more like regular athletic shoes with more tread on the soles and more mesh panels overall. They have a wider fit because of the more flexible and relaxed materials used.

Despite the more relaxed style, they run very small and we found it necessary to go up a size or even two sizes. They use three straps for closure and their heavy use on mesh panels guarantees these shoes will keep your feet cooler. The combined nylon and fiberglass sole can house all the major MTB cleats.

These shoes feel comfortable and sturdy. We liked that they have a more multipurpose use appearance and that they are more relaxed, though we weren’t happy with the poor sizing and the fact that they just use Velcro for closure.

Pros:

  • These shoes can be worn for off-bike use and no one will know their cycling shoes.?
  • The heavily meshed design allows for great breathability.

Cons:

  • These shoes run very small.
  • All of the color options are heavily gray.

PEARL IZUMI Men’s Select Road V5 Cycling Shoe

 in stock
Amazon.ca
as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

This is the second time Pearl Izumi showed up on our list. These shoes are very similar to the other style except these lack some of the additional features that pushed the other style further up on our list. One of those features is the antimicrobial sock liner. These do have a design that forms well to the wearer’s feet, making them comfortable and supportive. They have an EVA insole for cushion.

You can use both SPD and SPD-SL with these and the nylon sole allows flexibility while maintaining stability. They have a similar mesh panel design to the other Pearl Izumis on our list, so while not the most breathable, they do offer some airflow. They use three straps for closure, and these tend to run smaller than the previous Pearl Izumi style on this list.

Pearl Izumi makes great shoes, and these are an example of that. While they didn’t have enough benefits to push them higher on the list, we did like how they hugged our feet and offered great support and stability.

Pros:

  • These accommodate both 2-bolt and 3-bolt cleats.
  • These shoes feature a lining that fits snuggly to your feet.

Cons:

  • These don’t have all the features that the other style has.
  • These shoes run smaller and won’t fit the same.

Santic Indoor Biking Shoes For Men

as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

The Santic cycling shoes are very flashy in design with three color options in a camouflage pattern. You can pick from neon green and black, red and black, and gray and black. While this was a unique and interesting design choice, we did feel that the outer material was a bit plasticky feeling. We also found the tongue to be stiff and uncomfortable. Despite this, the support and comfort were fine.

These will work with most cleat types, though you may need an adapter, and these shoes have a larger number of perforations to keep your feet cool. For closure, the Santic Cycling Shoes use a buckle and straps system, both a bit outdated, but still functional. The sole is made of carbon for excellent stability. One concern we had was that it seemed manufacturing errors were a bit too common with these shoes.

These shoes are perfect for those who want to show off. They fit decently and had fine support. While they seem like great shoes, we question the durability of the outer materials and were not pleased with the errors.

Pros:

  • These shoes are flashy and a bit wild looking with a camouflage pattern.
  • The Santic Cycling Shoes will work with an adapter to fit almost all types of cleats.

Cons:

  • Santic seemed to have a common issue with manufacturing errors.
  • The materials used for the outside of these shoes is a bit questionable.

NOXNEX Indoor Cycling Shoes For Men

 out of stock
Amazon.ca
as of September 24, 2021 9:07 am

These shoes have the most color options out of all the cycling shoes on our list with nine options. Some of these colors have a lined pattern on them and some are iridescent. The solid colored options are white with black accents, black with bright green accents, silver with black accents, and a solid patent black. Of the line patterned ones, you can choose red and black, white and black, and blue and black. Lastly, the iridescent options are black and red.

These shoes have a nylon sole and are compatible with both 2-bolt and 3-bolt cleats. They don’t have any mesh panels and the perforations in the outer material aren’t as much as we would like for breathability. The NOXNEX shoes use a dial and Velcro closure combination for the best fit. These do run a little small though.

The variety the NOXNEX Cycling Shoes allows in appearance options makes up a little for the lack of airflow, but not enough to bump these up to a higher position on our list, though we were happy that they had a dial closure.

Pros:

  • These have a lot of interesting and varied color options.
  • NOXNEX Cycling Shoes work with multiple cleat styles.

Cons:

  • These don’t breathe as well as some other designs.
  • These shoes run a little small.

Venzo Men’s Cycling Shoes For Home Use

One of the best things a manufacturer can do to show they have confidence in their product is to offer a warranty. This is even truer when it’s something that can wear down quickly such as exercise shoes. Venzo offers a 2-year limited warranty for their shoes, proving they know they have a great design. These shoes are mostly white with black and red accents and have a removable sock liner.

While these fit a bit on the narrow side, they have mesh panels for flexibility and airflow. The Venzo Cycling Shoes uses three Velcro straps for closure. These shoes work with SPD cleats and have a more classic appearance.

These shoes were fine in performance and functionality. They were a bit too narrow for us, and we wished there was more to them, but the basic design and straight forward approach were all one needed from a good pair of cycling shoes.

Pros:

  • Venzo offers a 2-year limited warranty on these shoes.
  • There is ample mesh to keep your feet cool.

Cons:

  • These shoes fit narrower.
  • Venzo Cycling Shoes only use straps for closure.

Buying Guide

You always want your cycling shoes to feel stiffer and lighter than other types of athletic footwear. They need to fit well and snug in order to prevent heels from slipping and a lack of support. Some people who are newer to cycling will find these shoes too restrictive, but there are plenty of options that are a roomier style for those who prefer that.

Closure systems may not seem that important at first. However, since they determine how to put on and take off your shoes, you’ll want them to not only be as convenient as possible, but also stay in place so you don’t need to stop to readjust your shoes. Laces can dangle down and become a safety concern. Velcro straps are quick and easy, but people have a tendency to pull the too tight or not tight enough. Buckle styles are quickly falling out of popularity because they tend to wear down quicker and lose their security. Dials have become the better option available today. You can simply turn it to adjust it, and they have quick releases that will loosen immediately.

Understanding the cleat options and knowing what kind you need is vital to finding the right shoes. If you pick out a pair and they’re not compatible it can be a disappointment and a frustrating situation. You should always know your equipment and how best to work it.

Final Verdict

The Sidi Alba 2 Mega Cycling Shoes came out on top of our list of best cycling shoes. They had the width and comfort, as well as the support you would want to get from cycling shoes. The Fizik R5 Cycling Shoe was very similar and we had a hard time deciding which would be our top pick. The sturdy outer material of both, and the quality of the shoes made these two easy top contenders, but ultimately the fit of the Sidi Alba 2 Mega Cycling Shoes is what set it apart. It seems to us that this is a happy medium for those who want the looser fits and who have slightly wider feet or toes, and those who like the snug feel and firm support of cycling shoes.

As you can see from our list, there is a great deal of variety in cycling shoes, and not just in appearances alone. The fit, materials, and function can be drastically different. Whether you’re a long-time cyclist or you’re just starting out, you will be able to find the right shoe for you on our list.
